If you’re like most people, you consider yourself well if you don’t feel sick. Sure, it would be nice to shed ten pounds or knock a few points off your blood pressure. And, of course, you could do without the occasional headache and flu. But for the most part, you wake up every morning assuming you’re going to make it through the day in one piece.
In the years before I was getting sick 4x a year, I thought I was well enough. To be sure, stress was a constant drain during my undergrad and grad school studies and work, and I cycled through many bleary-eyed days following not much too late the preceding nights. But I’d always find a way to carry on.
Over the years, I learned that physical fitness, which I had always considered the main component of wellness, was only one part of a wellness matrix.
The idea that I was not well would have been hard for those around me to grasp. After all, they saw me exercising regularly, eating a relatively healthy diet.
To THEIR way of thinking, since I didn’t LOOK sick, I must have been well.
If you rarely change your car’s oil, you might drive for month – years, even – and see no mechanical problems.
Inside, however, your engine’s dying a slow death, and one day it will leave you stranded.
I’ve often wondered why many of us pay more attention to our cars than to our physical and nonphysical bodies – which carry us through this life’s trip.
Most of us keep our cars for three to ten years.
The body, intellect, psyche, and spirit need to last a lot longer than that!
If your body shows no sign of disease, it may FEEL as if you’re not losing, but may not really be the case.
Many who die of diseases, along with many who do not, might suffer unpleasant treatments and endure years of reduced QUALITY of life.
When you stare into your future, what do you see?
If you continue doing what you’re doing, where will you be 10, 20 years from now?
As you’re getting older and wiser, are you also getting healthier and stronger?
If not, what can you do right now to change that?

THE UNNATURAL NATURE OF DISEASE
Give that humans can live longer than one hundred years, why don’t more of us make it to that advanced age?
Considering the dramatic increase in chronic and lifestyle-related diseases during this century, it would seem that most of us “disease out” before our bodies wear out.
Health is a state that our bodies naturally seek, while disease is an unnatural state. Our bodies healing systems are constantly at work, in countless ways, rebalancing and recalibrating the chemical and electrical messages that keep our bodies in tune.
Your immune system, in fact, is at this very moment heading off disease before it starts. Cancer cells, for example, reside in everyone. But for the most part the body’s immune system arrests the renegade cells before they can do too much damage. It’s when the immune system coughs, pings, and misses a beat that a cancer cells breaks through the net and grows unchecked.
Many doctors’ visits are related to reactions of everyday stress, symptoms including headaches, back pain, upset stomach, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, and weight fluctuations.
What “they” don’t teach you is that most of the “diseasing of American” is caused by factors WITHIN OUR CONTROL such as environmental factors.
SHORT TERM HEALTH INVESTMENT:
- Increased physical energy and mental clarity.
- Better sleep patterns.
- Serenity and improved stress management
LONG TERM HEALTH INVESTMENT:
- More productive years, adding years to your life and life to your years.
- Fewer “lurking” diseases springing from an accumulation of bad habits.
- More normal weight levels.
- Fewer injuries associated with loss of physical wellness and later years.
- From a business standpoint, physical wellness is good for the boom line in terms of improved morale, greater productivity, fewer sick days, and lower health insurance rates because of better claims experience.
The cost of PREVENTING disease pale in comparison to the COST of treatment.
What will you choose? The choice is yours…
