How chronic illness influences aging
Chronic diseases do not happen overnight.
They happen because of long term cellular damage and chronic stress to the body.
When we started studying the way our food and environment impacts cellular damage, cellular repair and immunity, we become more curious about the way our cell’s function.
We all start life as a single cell.
One becomes two, two becomes four and on and on to form two hundred billion of cells to make our adult body.
Your cells are responsible to carry vital operating instructions to keep your body in a good working order.
Your heart cells can keep a steady beat.
Your immune cells can fight off bacteria and viruses.
Every time the cell divides some of the telemeter DNA get shortened.
A telomere is the end of a chromosome that protect the chromosome from damage.
It is OVER shortening of telomeres that lead us to feel and see signs of aging.
Our skin cells start to die, hair pigments cells die, immune cells die, and you increase your risk of getting sick with an inflammatory illness.
Telomeres are connected how quickly we get old.

When we started working with clients 1-1, we have discovered that mothers of children with chronic conditions and under enormous PSYCHOLOGICAL stress, age FASTER.
People’s life events and the WAY we RESPOND to those events can change how fast we age.
There was some hope in that data.
Studies have shown that mothers despite having been carefully caring for their children for many years, have been able to maintain the health of their telomeres.
So studying these women closely revealed that they were RESILIENT to stress.
Somehow, they were able to experience those circumstances not as a threat day in and day out but as a CHALLENGE.
This led to a very important discovery….
We have more control over aging process that many of us can ever imagine.
If you are a negative thinker, you typically see a stressful situation with a threat stress response, your blood vessels constrict, and your level of stress hormone cortisol creeps up, and then it stays up.
And overtime, that persistently high level of the cortisol damps down your telomeres (ages you!).
On the other hand, if you see something stressful as a CHALLENGE to be tackled, then blood flows to your heart and your brain.
Your telomeres do just fine.
So what is all of this telling us?
What about other factors?
